2008 GMC Terrain SLTGMC's first ever compact SUV, the all-new Terrain was officially launched in Jordan at a major media Ride & Drive event along the scenic Amman to Dead Sea route. Coming one year after the launch of the widely successful Acadia – GMC's first entry in the crossover segment – the Terrain is the latest in a growing line of professional grade GMC sport utility vehicles offering a stylish and practical package. The all–new Terrain is now available at showrooms of the GMC dealer in Jordan, The Leading Vehicles Company Ltd.

The new Terrain offers five seats and is available with a 2.4-litre engine making 141 hp and 222 Nm of torque or with a 3.2-litre V6 engine making 223 hp and generating 300 Nm of torque to appeal to a wide range of customers. A five-speed automatic transmission is common to both models. Available in two trim levels, SLE and SLT, the Terrain is driven by value, leaving nothing to be desired at any level.

With the Terrain compact SUV, the GMC brand now encompasses an ever expanding line-up offering its professional grade philosophy to younger individuals and small families to experience and enjoy what Arab and large families have enjoyed for decades. There is now a GMC for everyone starting from the Terrain, Acadia, Envoy, Sierra, Yukon, Yukon XL and Denali models.

Coming in close behind value is striking design and Terrain excels here too. It heralds the introduction of a new-style generation of GMC products for the Middle East and, both inside and out, features design cues that portray strong characteristics.

Examples include the strong 'face' of the brand incorporating a prominent GMC logo; the facia design with integrated in-car entertainment and unambiguous controls, clear and informative instrumentation and details on the door cases, seats and console. Add the use of new high quality materials and even closer attention to fit and finish and you have a high quality product.

On the outside, Terrain also adds the durable and rugged look of integrated 'skid' panels in front and rear bumpers and contrasting dark sill and wheel arch mouldings. Jewel-like headlights and taillights add to the overall good looks.

The Terrain comes with an impressive list of standard equipment. Twin front and curtain airbags are standard, even on the base SLE model along with head restraints and full three-point seatbelts. Side airbags are specified on the SLT models. All models are equipped with deadlocking and an alarm system.

Careful thought has been applied to what is a real need in an SUV as opposed to specification to impress. In typical GMC style, all instruments and operating controls are ergonomically placed and clearly laid out. Large, distinctive instruments and a center console with central info display give the cockpit a driver-oriented layout. Steering mounted audio controls are standard, as is power windows with express down. Ultrasonic rear and Front Park assist with rearview LED light bar and audible warning is standard on the SLT and available on the SLE. The SLT can also be specified with a sunroof.

The suspension is fully independent for excellent on-road performance and manoeuvring capabilities. It consists of a MacPherson strut configuration at the front and an independent four link set up at the rear. Ventilated disc brakes are standard on all four wheels. The Terrain's AWD system combines the benefits of pure front-wheel drive - such as low fuel consumption and virtually effortless manoeuvering with those of four-wheel drive.

Under normal conditions, the Terrain is a pure front-wheel drive car. However, propulsion power can be quickly and seamlessly distributed between the front and rear axle at a ratio of up to 50:50 when needed. The key element for this function is an electronically controlled, electro-hydraulic differential on the rear axle. The compact and light AWD system is fully integrated in the ABS and ESP and supports the driver effectively in all driving situations, including during heavy acceleration.
